Ayurvedic Doctor Vasant Lad, B.A.M.S., M.A.Sc.:
Renowned Author and East Indian Ayurvedic Teacher
Director of the Ayurvedic Institute
Teacher of Losang Jinpa, D.Ayur of the Ayurveda Healing Arts Institute
Losang's Core Teacher: Ayurvedic Doctor Vasant Lad
Renowned author and Ayurvedic Physician Dr. Vasant Lad's Ayurvedic Studies Certificate Program, where Losang Jinpa, D.Ayur. (Class of 1998) studied, is the most comprehensive clinical training in Ayurveda offered in the United States and is the only program taught full time by an actual Doctor of Ayurveda (B.A.M.S. and M.A.Sc.) with 39 years of clinical experience. Dr. Lad, a distinguished author, has been recognized since 1984 as the foremost expert of Ayurveda in the United States.
Dr. Lad brings a wealth of classroom and practical experience to the United States. A native of India, he served for three years as Medical Director of the Ayurveda Hospital in Pune, India. He was Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Pune University College of Ayurvedic Medicine for 15 years. He holds a Bachelor’s of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery (BAMS) degree from the University of Pune and a Master’s of Ayurvedic Science (MASc) degree from Tilak Ayurved Mahavidyalaya. Dr. Lad’s academic and practical training include the study of Allopathy (Western medicine) and surgery, as well as traditional Ayurveda. Beginning in 1979, he has traveled throughout the United States sharing his knowledge of Ayurveda. In 1984 he came to Albuquerque as Director, principal instructor and founder of the Ayurvedic Institute. Dr. Lad is the author of several books and is respected throughout the world for his knowledge of Ayurveda. He personally teaches most of the Ayurvedic topics at the Ayurvedic Institute.
In the ancient period, the teaching system for Ayurveda was purely based on Guru shisya parampara (teacher taught pattern) which is rarely found in the present times. In this present era, many of the universities in India and in some other countries have introduced advanced level Ayurvedic medical education (B.A.M.S. - Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery - 5 years of study) and graduate level (M.A.Sc.- Master of Ayurvedic Science and M.D.Ay. [the newer title that replaced the older M.A.Sc. title]) degrees in Ayurveda. Prior to being admitted into the above advanced university level programs, the candidates face difficult entrance examinations. Even after the completion of the above lengthy course of study, the Indian government's Union Public Service Commission, conducts another screening test in order to select the best scholars of Ayurveda for posts as medical officers, lecturers at State public service commissions and university professorships. Hence, there is competition not only in getting into graduate level programs, but also government services too. (cover art from "Ayurveda: Life, Health, and Longevity",
1992, by Robert E. Svoboda,
Penguin Books, New York, NY)
He graduated with a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (B.A.M.S.) from the University of Pune, India, in 1968 and received a Master of Ayurvedic Science (M.A.Sc.) in 1980 from Tilak Ayurved Mahavidyalaya, also in Pune.
Dr. Lad is the author of several books and is respected throughout the world for his knowledge of Ayurveda. Currently he is Director of The Ayurvedic Institute in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Dr. Lad began the Ayurvedic Institute in 1984 an
d is its principal instructor. The Ayurvedic Institute was established in 1984 to promote the traditional knowledge of Ayurveda. In support of this, the Institute also offers programs in the sister disciplines of Ayurveda -- Sanskrit, Yoga and Jyotish (Vedic astrology). The Ayurvedic programs reflect the style of sitting with a traditional Indian teacher. The Vedic educational model is quite different from the "western" experience with which most of us are familiar. The knowledge is taught with the body, mind and spiritual components intact, along with practical examples, ceremonies and stories.

Rev. Dr. Partap Chauhan, B.A.M.S., Ayurvedic Physician from India, , Master Ayurvedic Herbalist Specialist (M.A.H.), Ph.D
Dr. Chauhan is a regular (once a year) adjunct faculty member teaching classes such as Ayurvedic Rasa Shastra (metallic, mineral and gem herbal compounds), Ayurvedic Herbal Wine and Tincture Making and Advanced Herbology at the Ayurveda Healing Arts Institute via once a year week-long seminars hosted by our friends at the Las Vegas Institute of Ayurveda (www.AyurvedaLV.org). Dr. Chauhan is teaching for the Ayurveda Healing Arts Institute via both in-person in-classroom lectures held once a year in Las Vegas, Nevada and via distance learning multimedia audio courses. Dr. Chauhan hosts our Institute’s yearly Ayurveda Gurukula India Study-Abroad Program in his busy clinic and school in the countryside outside of Delhi.
Dr. Chauhan, Director of Jiva Ayurveda Center for Incurable Diseases (www.Ayurvedic.org), has an extensive background in Vedic philosophy and spirituality and is an accomplished Vaidya (Ayurvedic Doctor) practicing Ayurveda in its original form. In 1980 he joined
the Delhi University’s Ayurvedic College, graduating second in his class.
Formal education did not suffice to quench his deep thirst for knowledge so he searched for a guru to unlock the secrets of Ayurveda. His search culminated in 1983 when he met with the late Shri Nanak Chand Sharma, an expert in Rasa Sastra (alchemy) and the preparation of Ayurvedic medicines. Dr Chauhan undertook five years of grueling full time study under Vaidya Sharma’s active guidance, and mastered the intricacies of herbal medicines and their preparation. In 1991, while still studying under the tutelage of Vaidya Sharma, he started his own practice south of Delhi. He also established the Jiva Pharmacy to create purely Ayurvedic medicines. In these years, Dr Chauhan has toured and lectured in many countries worldwide helping chronic patients.
