The Ayurveda Healing Arts Institute (and its parent the Medicine Buddha Healing Center) were founded on July 4, 2000 by Losang Jinpa, D.Ayur, M.A.H., Ph.D and several other long-time senior students of world-renowned author and Ayurvedic Physician Dr. Vasant Lad, B.A.M.S., M.A.Sc. Serving on the herbology faculty of Dr. Lad’s Ayurvedic Institute in New Mexico, Losang co-founded the Medicine Buddha Healing Center and its teaching ministry, the Ayurveda Healing Arts Institute, to revive the age-old integration of Buddhism with Indo-Tibetan Ayurveda.

The Ayurveda Healing Arts Institute has as its primary educational purpose to prepare its students to serve as qualified skilled Ayurvedic healing arts professionals (Pastoral Counselors with specialization in the Ayurvedic perspectives on herbology, massage, diet, and lifestyle) by offering a formal Ayurvedic Practitioner Certificate program with ordination as an Ayurvedic Pastoral Counselor (Minister). The Ayurveda Healing Arts Institute was founded as a non-profit 501(c)(3) religious organization and hence completely free from government interference or regulation. Nevertheless, our programs have been designed and periodically updated to be in accord with state and national legislative requirements if they do not interfere with our religious freedom to spread the teachings of Ayurveda as our spiritual duty (Dharma). Graduates of our program should be able to sit for future examinations in Ayurveda administered by the National Ayurvedic Medicine Association (NAMA) or the California Association of Ayurvedic Medicine (CAAM).
<top>
In furtherance of this purpose, and in order to assure the competency of our graduates, the Ayurveda Healing Arts Institute offers qualified and experienced faculty who provide our students with a solid foundation in the theoretical bases and clinical applications of Traditional Ayurvedic Medicine (TAM). The institute advocates a comprehensive approach to the practice of TAM and prepares students to utilize its various modalities as necessary to accurately diagnose and effectively treat patients in accordance with the ancient tenets of Indo-Tibetan Buddhist-Vedic-Yogic Ayurvedic Healing Arts (Traditional Ayurvedic Medicine - TAM).
With this in mind, we have designed a program of education that acknowledges the complementary relationship of Indo-Tibetan Ayurvedic and Western approaches to healing in the evolution of a future world medicine. Our philosophy of health care is to treat the whole person, rather than just the disease, and to emphasize prevention rather than cure according to the precepts of Ayurveda. To this end, and in order to optimize treatment for every patient, our program stresses the integration of diet, lifestyle, spirituality, meditation, breath therapy (pranayama), exercise, herbology, Pancha Karma cleansing - rejuvenation massage, Ayurvedic acupressure massage (marma point therapy), chromotherapy (color healing), sound therapy (mantra / chanting ), aromatherapy (use of essential oils), and, the principal modalities of Traditional Ayurvedic Medicine (TAM).
